Iowa at Maryland odds, picks and prediction

The Iowa Hawkeyes (15-7, 5-6 Big Ten) and Maryland Terrapins (11-12, 3-9) tangle Thursday in College Park, Md. Tip-off at Xfinity Center is slated for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Iowa vs. Maryland odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Iowa defeated Minnesota 71-59 Sunday. The Hawkeyes got 24 points and 15 rebounds from F Keegan Murray, and they cruised in a game that saw them commit their fewest turnovers (5) since Dec. 6. Iowa defeated Maryland 80-75 in Iowa City Jan. 3 but has gone just 4-4 since.

The Terrapins lost 82-67 at Ohio State Sunday and have dropped three in a row. Two of those setbacks were at home, but in its previous home-floor contest Maryland defeated then-No. 17 Illinois 81-65 Jan. 21. However, that game stands as an outlier: the Terps are just 4-7 over their last 11 games in College Park.

Iowa at Maryland odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Iowa 77, Maryland 74

Money line

Iowa’s ability to take care of the ball and Maryland’s inability to take it away are factors that loom large here. Peg the Hawkeyes as the better shooting team too, but one undervalued after recent hiccups.

There isn’t much margin to play with here, but the only side in this matchup perhaps worth a partial-unit play is an Iowa outright wager.

TAKE THE HAWKEYES (-175).

Against the spread

PASS.

This contest has the look of a 2-to-5-point win for Iowa on the road. Recent road games against Rutgers and Penn State don’t engender enough confidence in the Hawkeyes rolling this into three-possession territory with ease.

Over/Under

The Over has hit in three straight games in this series.

Maryland’s offense has trended in the right direction of late. Iowa’s 2-point shooting has fallen off in recent games, but the Hawkeyes have countered that by taking more 3s.

The first game between UI and MU hit 155 points without any outlier performances. BACK THE OVER 147.5 (-115) in this one.
