The San Diego Padres (11-10) and Los Angeles Dodgers (14-5) play Game 2 of a four-game series Friday at Dodger Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Dodgers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Tied 2-2

The Padres took Thursday’s opener 3-2 to snap a 3-game skid. They opened as +155 underdogs at BetMGM and closed at +140.

RHP Yu Darvish is San Diego’s projected starting pitcher. The 9-year veteran is 1-1 with a 2.55 ERA (24 2/3 IP, 7 ER), 0.81 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 in 4 starts.

  • Last outing: Loss, 7 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 BB, 9 K vs. Dodgers Saturday – Padres lost 2-0
  • Career vs. Dodgers: 0-1, 1.29 ERA (14 IP, 2 ER), 0.43 WHIP, 12.2 K/9 in 2 starts

LHP Clayton Kershaw is the projected Dodgers’ starter. The 3-time Cy Young winner is 3-1 with a 2.19 ERA (24 2/3 IP, 6 ER), 0.97 WHIP, 8.8 K/9 and 1.1 BB/9 in 4 starts.

  • Last outing: Win, 6 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 8 K in Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Padres
  • Career vs. Padres (regular season): 22-7, 1.99 ERA (267 IP, 59 ER), 0.97 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 in 41 starts

Padres at Dodgers odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 1:05 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Padres +120 (bet $100 to win $120) | Dodgers -145 (bet $145 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Padres +1.5 (-165) | Dodgers -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under: 7 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Prediction

Padres 3, Dodgers 2

Money line (ML)

Both starting pitchers are capable of tossing a gem. They faced off last weekend when the Dodgers won 2-0. Darvish held L.A. to just 1 hit in 7 innings but yielded 1 run, while Kershaw kept San Diego off the board, allowing 2 hits in 6 scoreless innings.

This matchup should be closer to a pick’em, but at +120, San Diego is a decent value play. Bet PADRES (+120) for a HALF UNIT.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. Since I’m backing the Padres ML, I don’t want to bother with laying -165 juice on them getting 1.5 runs.

If you believe the Dodgers are going to win, you’d be better off betting their -1.5 (+140) run line vs. laying -145 on their money line. Thursday’s writeup pointed out that the Dodgers cover the run line when they win. Of their 14 wins this season, 11 have been by at least 2 or more runs.

ATS records: Padres 10-11 | Dodgers 11-8

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 7 (-120) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. As mentioned, last weekend’s Darvish-Kershaw meeting resulted in a 2-0 Dodgers victory.

San Diego has played 6 Unders in a row; Los Angeles is on a 5-consecutive Under streak.

Plus, the O/U is 2-2 in Darvish’s 4 starts and 1-3 in Kershaw’s 4 starts. Hopefully, the bullpens won’t burn us in the late innings.

O/U records: Padres 6-15 | Dodgers 6-13
