The Houston Astros (7-9) and Colorado Rockies (5-12) close out a two-game set at Coors Field with a 3:10 p.m. ET first pitch Wednesday. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Astros vs. Rockies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Jose Urquidy is the projected starting pitcher for the Astros. In 8 starts over 2020-21, Urquidy is 1-2 with a 3.35 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 7.1 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 over 45 2/3 IP. He has a 4.50 ERA this season and is coming off a solid turn at the Seattle Mariners with 2 runs allowed over 5 2/3 IP.

LHP Austin Gomber is the projected starter for the Rockies. In 7 starts and 10 relief appearances over the last two seasons, he is 1-3 with a 2.44 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 8.3 K/9 and 5.7 BB/9 through 44 1/3 IP.

Gomber is coming off a solid start against the Los Angeles Dodgers and has registered a 3.52 ERA through 3 turns in 2021. A .189 opponent batting average on balls in play and 6.7% home run/fly-ball rate are conspiring to tamp that ERA down.

  • Money line: Astros -160 (bet $160 to win $100) | Rockies +135 (bet $100 to win $135)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Astros -1.5 (-105) |  Rockies +1.5 (-115)
  • Over/Under: 10 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Astros 5, Rockies 4

Money line (ML)

Colorado took Tuesday’s game 6-2 and won for just the second time since April 8. Houston has been even worse. The Astros are just 1-8 in their last nine games. Astros pitching has been touched up for a 6.00 ERA over that stretch.

Houston’s offense has been hamstrung by a .277 BABIP and is ripe for value. Facing a lefty starter doesn’t hurt: the Astros own a .832 OPS against southpaws.

Add in a lean toward Urquidy and a Gomber fade in the starting-pitcher matchup. TAKE THE ASTROS (-160).

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

With an Under lean and both bullpens being mostly unreliable, PASS on the Colorado RL play.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Denver forecast calls for temperatures not reaching 40 degrees and an inward breeze from center field.

Mix in the Colorado ‘pen being a tad undervalued (ERA ballooned by a .343 opponent BABIP), and you’ll find VALUE IN THE UNDER 10 (-105).
