We turn our attention to Wednesday’s matchup between the Calgary Flames and Anaheim Ducks as we try to move on from the Detroit Red Wings’ upset of the Pittsburgh Penguins that had us go 1-2 on Tuesday.

Tonight’s game gets underway at 10:30 p.m. Eastern from the Honda Center. Let’s get back on track!

Odds provided by FanDuel

By the Numbers

  • The Flames, who sit atop the Pacific Division and the Western Conference, are 22-14-0-2 straight up on the road this season, but just 19-19 against the spread.
  • Calgary’s 7-3-0 in its past 10 outings and currently riding a three-game win streak. Anaheim is 6-3-1 in that stretch and coming off a 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers to move within a point of them in the standings.
  • The two last played this past Friday with Calgary claiming a convincing 6-1 win with 37 shots on goal. The Flames lead the season series 2-1.
  • Anaheim has gone over the total in five straight outings, with Calgary playing to the over in each its past three.

Projected Goalie Starters

David Rittich vs. John Gibson

Rittich is 4-1 in his past five games, but he’s had to make at least 30 saves in just two of his past 11 starts. He hasn’t played the Ducks yet this season but sports a .933 save percentage on the road.

Gibson has been the lone bright spot this season for a Ducks team headed toward a soft rebuild with a spot near the top of the NHL Draft Lottery. Oddly, he also hasn’t yet appeared in the season series but enters with seven wins in his past eight outings.

Key Injuries

Flames RW Sam Bennett left Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings but head coach Bill Peters said he’ll be fine to play again in the regular season. He’s considered day-to-day coming into Wednesday.

The Ducks’ injury list continues to grow with D Josh Manson the latest who’s expected to miss the rest of the season. C Ryan Getzlaf practiced Tuesday after missing four games due to back spasms. It’s unclear whether he’ll bother returning to the lineup in a lost season.

NHL Best Bet

Moneyline: The Flames are fairly modest -165 favorites on the road. This number would be much larger if they were the home team. They should still have little trouble against the depleted Anaheim lineup.

Against the spread: We got greedy by doubling down on the Penguins against the Red Wings Tuesday, but that shouldn’t deter us from doing the same here with the conference-leading Flames against a lottery team. Take Calgary at -1.5 and +160 odds.

Over/under: The line’s set at just 5.5 and the OVER is the easy play with -130 odds.
