NHL Best Bet of the Day: Boston Bruins at Detroit Red Wings

We’re back with NHL picks as the Boston Bruins face the Detroit Red Wings Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

Our NHL Best Bet of the Day is 15-6, as we look to keep rolling with today’s NHL betting odds.

Odds provided by Bet365

By the Numbers

  • The Red Wings have won four straight overall, including their past two home games, and were listed as the underdog in all but one of those outings.
  • Saturday’s loss was the Bruins’ first in six outings as a favorite with their past four wins each coming by at least a three-goal margin.
  • Detroit has picked up two wins against Boston in the first three games of the season series, but the Bruins have a 12-9 advantage in total goals.

Projected Goalie Starters

Jaroslav Halak vs. Jimmy Howard

Halak gets the nod in the second half of a back-to-back for the Bruins after Tuukka Rask gave up three goals on 22 shots in a 4-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Saturday. The 33-year-old sports a .923 save percentage over 38 appearances this season.

Howard recorded three consecutive wins before relieving an injured Jonathan Bernier for the third period of Friday’s Red Wings’ victory over the New Jersey Devils when he stopped all seven shots he faced. He’s picked up two wins over the Bruins this season with 72 saves on 76 shots.

Key Injuries

Red Wings C Frans Nielsen is a candidate to return to the lineup from his undisclosed injury. LW Thomas Vanek remains without a timeline. D Jonathan Ericsson sat out Friday’s contest but could be eligible to return.

NHL Best Bet

Moneyline: The Bruins are a -210 favorite after Saturday’s stinker against the Panthers. It’s a big number to spot them, but it’s the play as they go up against a lottery team.

Against the spread: The Red Wings have the edge in the season series and will face the backup in Halak. They’re a strong pick at -145 to cover the 1.5 spread at home.

Over/under: The total’s set at just 5.5, a number the two teams have topped in two of their three meetings this year. The Bruins have played to totals of six or more goals in seven of their past 10 outings and the Red Wings have done in it in four of 10. Take the OVER at -130.
