NHL Best Bet of the Day: Boston Bruins at Tampa Bay Lightning

We’re fresh off our first outright win thanks to the Chicago Blackhawks, and we picked up another win with the under to move to 5-4 in NHL bets over the past three days.

Let’s keep it rolling with the Boston Bruins (+130) taking on the Tampa Bay Lightning (-150) at 7:30 Eastern as they try to extend their win streak to five games.

Odds provided by PointsBet

By the Numbers

  • The first-place Lightning dropped to 8-2 in its past 10 outings with a 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. Boston has gone 7-3 over its previous 10 games but none of those victories were as an underdog.
  • The Bruins have scored at least five goals in each of their past three games and have gone 6-4 against the total in the last 10.
  • Tampa Bay has won two straight as an underdog and has played to the over in seven of 10 games.
  • Boston won the last meeting between the two Atlanta Division foes by a score of 4-1 on Feb. 28 as the moneyline favorite.
  • The Bruins have been dominating the rate of possession since March 1, registering nearly 57 percent of all shot attempts over their past 11 games. The Lightning has scored roughly 64 percent of all goals in its previous 11 outings.

Projected Goalie Starters

Tuukka Rask vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy

Rask has allowed just one goal over his past two starts, stopping 34 of 35 shots on goal. However, March has been his worst month of the season, posting a save percentage of just .898 over seven games.

Vasilevskiy is also on an uncharacteristic slide, having allowed four goals in each of his past two and three of his past five starts.

Key Absences

Lightning center Yanni Gourde will serve his second of a two-game suspension.

Boston D Torey Krug, who hasn’t played since March 12 due to a concussion, has been ruled out yet again. LW Marcus Johansson will be a game-time decision as he attempts a return from a long contusion that has kept him sidelined since March 5.

NHL Best Bet

Moneyline: Take the Lightning (-150) to defend home ice where it’s 31-8 straight up this season.

Against the spread: Expect the Bruins to cover +1.5 (-200). Both teams have a tendency to win big but should stay close against each other as they both enter with a day of rest.

Over/under: The over – 6 – is the easy play tonight at -125 odds, despite the fact the two have played below that number in each of their first two meeting this season. The offenses are clicking while the star goaltenders struggle.
