NHL Best Bet of the Day: Colorado Avalanche at Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks (-116) will play host to the Colorado Avalanche (-105) at 8 p.m. Eastern while trying to close a six-point gap for the second Wild Card spot in the NHL’s Western Conference.

Colorado enters on a four-game winning streak after having taken care of the Hawks by a score of 4-2 at the Pepsi Center in the first half of the back-to-back on Saturday.

Odds provided by Bet365.

By the Numbers

  • The Avalanche has played to the under in eight of its past 10 games while the Blackhawks have gone 5-4-1 against the total.
  • Chicago is 5-5 straight up over its last 10 outings, scoring more than two goals just four times.
  • Colorado is 4-3-2 in the second half of back-to-backs this season, while the Blackhawks are 4-6-2 in those situations.
  • The sides enter 2-2 in the season series with the Avalanche winning the first meeting at the United Center last month.

Projected Goalie Starters

Semyon Varlamov vs. Corey Crawford

Philipp Grubauer got the call for the Avalanche on Saturday and stopped 29 of 31 Chicago shots on goal in the victory. He’ll likely give way to No. 1 starter Varlamov in the second half. Varlamov owns a .910 save percentage with a 2.86 goals against average on the year.

Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton said Saturday that the Chicago crease belongs to Crawford when healthy, according to Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times. He owns a .921 save percentage and a record of 5-3-1 with a shutout over his last nine games since March 2.

Key Injuries

Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen – 31 goals, 56 assists – will miss his second consecutive game after suffering an undisclosed injury Thursday. Gabriel Landeskog is unlikely to make his return to the lineup.

NHL Best Bet

Moneyline: Go with the Blackhawks (-116) on home ice as they desperately try to cling to the playoff picture.

Against the spread: Back Chicago at -1.5 (+230) with its season on the line and Colorado likely to be extra tired without two of its top point-getters.

Over/Under: Lock in the under at 6.5 (+110) as the two have topped six goals in just one of their four meetings this year.
