NFL Future Odds: Placing your bets on the NFC North

The Chicago Bears made a big jump last year and are now viewed as the dynasty team of the division. With Minnesota and Green Bay appearing to be in holding patterns and Detroit floundering, a long-term changing of the guard appears to be underway in Chicago (odds provided by PointsBet.com).

Chicago Bears (+700)

The Bears dominated the division last year and have offset free agent losses with signings. OLB Khalil Mack provided a spark last season and head coach Matt Nagy has Chicago poised to be the class of the NFC North for several years. With the same cast that went 12-4 last year largely back for title defense, they’re going to be a hot ticket all season and a potential sports bet value here.

Green Bay Packers (+900)

Despite going 13-18-1 the last two seasons and having suspect production on both sides of the ball, Vegas loves QB Aaron Rodgers and his big-game potential. The Packers broke protocol and spent on S Adrian Amos and LBs Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith in free agency, but parted ways with WR Randall Cobb and LBs Clay Matthews, Nick Perry and Jake Ryan. Somehow, with A-Rodg around, bettors will continue to drink the Green Kool Aid despite suspect analytics and overall team talent.

Minnesota Vikings (+900)

The Vikings kept the band together that went to the NFC Championship Game a year ago by re-signing LB Anthony Barr and have high-end talent on both sides of the ball. But, the window for winning a title is closing. With all the veteran talent they have, they could be a strong value pick, but have to fill a roster with low-paid talent to compensate.

Detroit Lions (+4000)

Detroit tends to overspend on free agents (see DE Trey Flowers), but always seem to be a step behind the competition. The Lions haven’t won the division since 1993 and 2019 doesn’t appear to be the year to break that streak given the strength of the division – even if they overspend to land free agents to fill numerous holes.
